Farouk M. Shah, P.Eng.

Mr. Shah is a professional Engineer presently involved in many aspects of Real Estate development in Alberta.
He began his experience in 1967 in structural engineering with Dominion Bridge in Saskatchewan. He was involved in building many of Saskatchewan’s Potash mines and commercial buildings. Later he was promoted to a sales and contracts manager position that focused primarily in the area of “design build”. In 1972 he was elected to the board of directors of the Construction Association of Saskatchewan.
In 1975, Mr. Shah established his consulting firm “F.M. SHAH BUILDING DESIGN LTD.” as a structural engineer in Saskatoon. Major clients included: Federated Cooperative, Separate and Public School Boards, Concord Group of Companies, Hashman Construction and TriZac Development.
From 1975 to 1985 Mr. Shah was the prime consulting engineer of many projects (Design/Build) such as:
- Sands Motor Hotel (185 rooms complete with 20,000 sq. ft. of convention space)
- Yellow Head Hotel and Retail Mall, Pizza Huts (6 locations)
- Park Avenue Building (12 story luxury condominiums)
- Broadway Building (14 story suite hotel and 78 condominium units)
As well as numerous strip malls, restaurants and warehouses.
In 1985, Mr. Shah established a development company – Farco Holdings and a construction company – Advanced Building Construction. Under these two companies he successfully developed many projects such as:
- Paramount Fashion Centre
- Alpine Office Building
- Blue Diamond Restaurant
- Investor Syndicates Building
- Skyview Building
And completed renovations to the Hotel Saskatchewan and several condominium projects.
In 1993 Mr. Shah re-located from Saskatoon to Calgary where he re-established himself in the development industry as a consulting engineer and real estate financial consultant. Some of the projects that Mr. Shah was the prime consultant on are:
- Kingsway Professional Centre
- Chapters on Whyte Avenue
- Mount Royal Village
- Residences of Mount Royal
- Whiskey Jack Chalets
- Mystic Springs Chalets & Hot Pools
In 1999, Mr. Shah returned to the market as a Developer in partnership with local Calgarian investors to develop several projects in the Bow Valley (Canmore & Banff). These projects consist of:
- 77 residential condominiums, Canmore
- 45 Residential Units, Banff
- 44 Chalet Units (Mystic Springs), Canmore
Since 2003, Mr. Shah completed developments outside Calgary:
- seniors housing, 80 units, Red Deer, Alberta
- seniors housing, 87 units, Airdrie, Alberta
- residential townhouses, 227 units, Fort McMurray, Alberta
- Rundlestone Estates, 67 units, Fort McMurray, Alberta
As of 2006, Mr. Shah set his sights on Fort McMurray. Catering to the oil sands boom, Mr. Shah saw a growing need for residential accommodations and began development of the following ongoing projects:
- River Ridge Centre - 144 units
- Executive Suites - 150 units
- Edinburgh Tower - 120 units
And other projects in Alberta & BC:
- Cactus Ridge Estates - 92 units (Osoyoos, BC)
- Banff Ridge Estates - 96 units (Canmore, Alberta)
Some of the clients that Mr. Shah has worked with since moving to Calgary include: the Royal Bank, CitiFund, Alternative Financial Corporation, Mount Royal Properties, Whiskey Jack Development Group, Black Ridge Development, Willowglen Business Park and Carrington Properties.
